  • Sky Chutes Powered Parachutes Details and Facts

    • A cost effective and safe way to get your "wings".
When purchased new, these machines are comparable in cost to a high-end snowmobile or motorcycle.
    • A great aerial photography platform for taking still and video pictures.
A pilot steers a powered parachute using his/her feet. Once airborn your hands are free for taking pictures or shooting video.
    • Used for crop dusting.
A PPC can be equiped for use as a crop duster. This farming tool can also be used to inspect the progress of crops.
    • Used for law enforcement and rescue operations.
In some parts of the country, powered parachutes are used by fire department and law enforcement agencies for surveillance, search and rescue. The short take off and landing capabilities and slow flight speeds are ideal for these types of activities.
    • PPC constant cruising speed; 26 mph.
The speed of the craft is a constant 26 mph. It is a peaceful flight and PPC pilots typically fly at an altitude of between 300-500 feet.
    • PPC ceiling - 10,000 ft.
These aircraft can fly as high as 10,000 feet if desired. Some pilots will climb to a suitable altitude and turn the motor off and glide peacefully back to earth. The motor can be safely restarted in flight to climb back to altitude or to power back to the air strip.
    • Trial flights available.
Sky Chutes offers introduction flights with an experienced pilot at the controls. Contact Sky Chutes to arrange for an intro flight so you can get the feel of flight in its most basic form. During the intro flight, you will be in constant contact with your pilot through communications helmets allowing the pilot to explain the process and answer any questions as you fly.
    • Average new pilot training is 5-10 hours.
Typical pilot training consists of a few hours of ground school and then 5-10 hours of in air training accompanied by a flight instructor. You will solo (while in constant radio communications with the instructor) only when you and the instructor agree you are ready.
    • The factory is nearby, outside of Albany.
The Blue Heron factory is located near Albany, in the town of Wright, New York. Expensive shipping costs can be avoided with a short drive to the factory to pick up your new aircraft in person. Comparable equipment from out of state manufactures will have shipping costs that can be in the range of $400.00.
    • No rolling, no flipping.
The cart hangs from under the canopy like a pendulum. It cannot roll over or flip like a conventional, fixed-wing aircraft.
    • Blue Heron frame strength.
The Blue Heron factory prides itself on the superior strength of the double prop ring and patented, under-frame truss system. This design makes the Blue Heron carts one of the best and strongest in the industry. We welcome you to compare us to the competition and see for yourself the quality Blue Heron offers.
    • Double propeller ring bracing.
Blue Heron's double prop ring design has triangulated bracing providing extra strength to the prop area. This bracing protects the propeller area in case of a mishap. This configuration also acts as a roll cage. This double propeller ring safety feature is superior to other PPC manufactures.
    • High quality construction.
The components used in the manufacture of the Blue Heron PPCs are of the highest quality. All fasteners are AN (aircraft quality) type. The frame components are made with thick gauge aluminum.
    • Safety and quality.
Please take a close look and you will see that safety and quality are the focus at Blue Heron.
